The enigma of things
In « L’Intuition photographique », Arnaud Claass confesses his fondness for the vigor of photographs “which observe their observing”. This great theoreticist relishes photographs that are “at once astounded by reality and conscious of themselves”. This suits me just fine, to prefer a photograph that celebrates the enigma of things to an art form which pontificates through heavy demonstrations or looks willy-nilly for some original concept or other. Rather than seeking to grasp photography, let the photograph grasp us.
