Le Vallon des Auffes

Marseille, August 2012. Have fallen in love with this little Auffes Valley, a small sea inlet entering the town, hollowing out a small port between the tall houses of the likes more often seen in Sicily, with its tiny fishing boats and its only pizzeria, Chez Jeannot. My ritual when in Marseille: every day, I stop by Chez Jeannot’s for a bottle of rosé wine, a couple of glasses and some ice, and I go sit out on the rocks with some friends, where together, we watch the sun set. Sometimes, when I’m feeling up to it, I go take a couple of photos of the neighbourhood kids come from all round really, who fancy  cooling off in the water, trainers still on. After having taken my photos on the sly, I leave them to their brutal games and go back to my sunset rosé.
