Brussels
We’re living the biggest farce ever seen in Brussels. Curfews, the army in the streets, the country has ground to a halt. Getting into such a tizzy is nothing but a smokescreen destined to hide the inefficiency of our intelligence services and the police. All this for what? To date, there’s no justifying this state of siege that’s paralysing the entire city. Zero precise attack plans uncovered, nor imminent menaces. Zip. Moreover, the measure is merely cosmetic: in the streets of Brussels at half past six this morning, I struggled to see a uniform, including in the sensitive spots. The military and police start deploying at eight o’clock. Thus, their sole objective is to be seen by the people, not to prevent any attack, since the city is left wide open at night. Clearly, the priority for Belgian politicians is not to defeat the terrorists, but rather to not lose the elections.
