Relic of an intelligent civilization

A relic from a civilization where public notices, like this one at the entrance of the botanical garden in Nantes, were written in refined French. Punctuation and subjunctives were in no way extravagant nor off-putting. Given this evident consideration, the prohibition became acceptable ; and so people gladly deferred. The elegance of the language predisposed one to admire beautiful things and to address others with courtesy. Looks like it's cracked a bit.
